“The feedback from others is accurate I would say.”

It is a lovely cottage in a beautiful location. We were very grateful for the kind gesture of scones with jam and cream. It is a lovely cottage in a beautiful location. We were very grateful for the kind gesture of scones with jam and cream. The kitchen and bathroom are modern (there is now a bathroom blind, although I can’t see how anyone could see in - maybe the foliage in the garden has grown), but the lounge could be comfier - the sofa is fine but the chairs aren’t comfortable. We moved from the front bedroom as my husband didn’t like the mattress (I hadn’t tried it so can’t personally comment - he’s more sensitive to such things than I am). Everything creaks. Given it’s an older cottage, it feel unreasonable to complain, however, we needed to move around at night (using the bathroom and settling our dog who was crated downstairs and needed a couple of nights to adjust). Moving around without waking everyone up is tricky. One night a bedroom door had been left ajar and needed to be shut to stop the creaking. Our main priority was the dog - it was our first attempt of a holiday with her. We needed a fully enclosed garden and it was perfect for that purpose. I can see why others have said it’s a bit tired, but that didn’t affect us. We also wanted to be central to a couple of places we wanted to visit, so it was perfect for that. There is a small wood which was great for dog walks without having to get in the car. It is small though, so we found other options which were a 15ish minute drive. Sadly, there’s no access to the lake as it’s private, however having the river running by with the stone bridge is wonderful. The pub is great, as is the village shop. Very friendly and excellent food (we had dinner in the pub and got sandwiches from the shop). Strawberry Fields just up the road is also lovely for meals out and has an amazing farm shop. Tesco is around a 20 minute drive away. WiFi works but is on the slower side and it’s been a long time since we’ve been restricted to ‘normal’ tele but it’s a cottage in the country and we’re not going to complain because we’ve got used to being spoiled. We’re old enough to remember no internet and 3 channels! For our priorities on this trip it was great overall.
