“A lovely cottage but felt it needed a few updates.”

The sofas are very uncomfortable, nowhere much to hang clothes up.The bathroom really needs updating. Some of the utensils, plates etc look very worn. The garden was not well kept or tidy.Cottage in a lovely location though apart from grumpy neighbour at number 13 who knocked loudly on door the first evening and told me to move my car, even though it was in front of number 11!Then neighbours at number 9 arrived Thursday and that night they had a massive row and before that had been making noise ...

Sorry to hear that your stay at the cottage was disappointing. We do ask guests to park opposite the cottage once they have unloaded as a courtesy to our neighbours that live in the village. Unfortunately we have no control over how our neighbours act in their own homes and are really sorry that they disturbed you. We will take your other comments on board. Like you say the cottage is in a lovely position and well placed for visiting all that is on offer in the surrounding countryside. Property Owner

The property

In a pretty terrace in Otterton, looking over the village green, a Grade II listed, part thatched cottage.

Inside, an inspired choice of smart modern furnishings, quality fabrics and local artwork complement lovely original features with beams and some low lintels (from 5'8").

Glazed doors open to an enclosed, south-facing garden with level paved area (table/chairs) and steps climbing steeply up to lawned terraces (further seating) with views of the church and over rooftops to the village.

From the street, door to good-sized kitchen (slimline dishwasher, microwave, washer-drier, fridge-freezer, electric cooker) with ornamental range; inviting living room (open fire, TV/DVD, iPod dock, double sofa bed for alternative sleeping) with stable doors to terrace and glazed doors to conservatory/dining room, full of light and space, with further doors to terrace/garden.

Stairs (stairgates) up to two bedrooms - a romantic double with four-poster bed (footboard) and ornamental fireplace, and a neat twin (zip-linkable to 6' double).

About the location

OTTERTON

Budleigh Salterton 3 miles; Sidmouth 3 miles.

Set back from the coast among the rolling green countryside and wooded valleys of beautiful East Devon, this pretty village with its collection of traditionally thatched roofed cottages is straight from a picture postcard. Offering a quieter but no less beautiful holiday destination than the rest of the county it’s the perfect place to relax and unwind, and is just 3 miles from the Regency coastal resort towns of both Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth, and one mile from the SW Coastal Path as it meanders above the waves towards the World Heritage Site ‘Jurassic Coast’ beaches with their abundant fossils. Ladram Bay with its red-stone sea stacks is just one mile away. Inland, footpaths follow the banks of the River Otter where fox, badger and birdlife play while just down the road from the village is Bicton Park and Botanical Gardens, 60 acres of garden lovers’ paradise. For a really interesting hour or two, visit the last working flour mill on the river Otter - it’s in the village and the flour is superb. There’s much to do and see in this beautiful and unspoilt area but if you want to explore further afield, the open spaces and high tors of Dartmoor can be reached in under an hour while the Cathedral city of Exeter with its superb shopping centre, cinemas, clubs and restaurants is a mere 10 miles.

Note: Some low lintels (from 5'8"). Church bell chimes on the hour.

Note: Electric car charging is not permitted at this property.
