“The property was dusty and generally unclean (dirty pans), had several dead flies/moths about.”

There was as odour of dampness which I am sure people were aware of due to the number of air fresheners and diffusers (mostly empty) about the property, the wardrobes and drawers had scented bags or liners in but all this still didn't hide the smell. The twin room had no space between the beds and the access to the wardrobe was very limited due to the beds being so near to them. All beds were so uncomfortable and feather bedding is also disappointing as many people have allergies and not other options available. The bathroom just felt grubby with mould apparent. It looked liked the décor was just odd items from charity shops and not much had been spent on the property since building it. The TV channels were temperamental no matter what side you were on, I understand it is a conservation area but I cannot believe locals put up with this. The information supplied not that there was much is out of date. For the price we paid I know there are better options out there which is sad as it is a lovely quiet setting. We came home early and disappointed.

We are completely baffled by these comments as they are in stark contrast to other reviews received in recent months. We, the owners were the last people to stay in The Tallet prior to your visit, and we are confident that we left the property in good order. The bathroom was cleaned thoroughly, and accusations of damp simply do not apply. Furniture, fittings and bedding etc. were chosen with quality in mind and most were sourced from John Lewis and other blue-chip retailers. That said we take all feedback seriously and we have reviewed the comments with the caretakers to ensure nothing has been overlooked going forward. We have also spoken to the current occupiers (repeat customers) to ensure that they are happy with arrangements, and they have confirmed that the property is well presented and offers the same level of comfort as in previous visits. We will check the Smart TV set up to ensure that it works correctly, however in the event of reception issues, TV can be sourced directly from the internet in many cases, and we also offer Netflix to give more viewing options, if required. The information folder is comprehensive, with all the necessary details and contains some older notices which are retained because they are still relevant. We always welcome constructive and appropriate comment but feel compelled in this instance to challenge what is quite frankly unjustified criticism. Having endeavoured to provide a beautiful and comfortable home in this most picturesque of settings, we remain bewildered! Property Owner

About the location

DITTISHAM

Dartmouth 3.5 miles; Totnes 7 miles.

Dittisham is a picturesque village surrounded by rolling countryside, located on the banks of the River Dart in the South Hams. Wander along the quiet streets lined with quaint, stone cottages and lush gardens, until you reach the waterfront. Dittisham’s quayside is often regarded as the hub of village activity. Stop at the Anchorside Café for a spot of breakfast – while taking in the fantastic river views. Try your hand at some crabbing with the kids on the dinghy pontoon. Visit the iconic pink Ferry Boat Inn (or FBI as it is known locally). Ring the bell for the ferry and head across the Dart to Greenway, the once holiday home of the renowned Agatha Christie. For outdoor activity, there are sailing schools and canoe hire, as well as plenty of scenic walks. The harbour town of Dartmouth is just a short drive away or ferry away, and offers an array of shops, a cinema, plenty of restaurants and even a castle. Further afield, you will find plenty of fantastic beaches such as Blackpool and Slapton Sands, as well as key destinations such as Salcombe, Totnes, and Brixham to explore.
