“Property was well looked after, lovely gardens and well maintained.”
One negative was that toilet downstairs.so visiting the loo during the night was via awkward staircase.
Access via narrow lanes, parking quite difficult, local pub more like 2 miles away and again narrow lanes, certainly not safe walking(it was closed during the week of our visit).

We're very pleased to hear you enjoyed the stay. Our wonderful garden team, led by Amanda, and Cheryl our great housekeeper, do everything they can to make a stay at Appletree memorable.
Appletree is a charming, 18th century cottage listed by Historic England as part of a typical Devon thatched terrace of former labourer's cottages. As with many old and characterful cottages, internal arrangements can be a challenge. For that reason, we have tried to make it clear in the details that the bathroom and WC are on the ground floor and that the cottage is not suitable for anyone with limited mobility. Looking ahead, we have, after two years of trying, finally got planning permission from the Dartmoor National Park to install a WC on the top floor and will be carrying out the building works later next year.
We also appreciate that Devon lanes are narrow - especially when the vegetation on the banks grows quickly as it does in the summer months. Most traffic that passes by is very local so the drivers know the roads well. We're always reassured to know that the recycling lorries manage the lanes but the ability to reverse is a useful skill in Devon that the locals have clearly mastered!
We're sorry to hear that the pub (presumably the Carpenters Arms in Ilsington) was shut during your stay. The walk there from the cottage is very pretty - a half mile down the lane, then up via the footpath through the woods into Ilsington village. That route is just over a mile and takes about 25 minutes. In terms of walking along the lanes, we keep hi-viz jackets for guests in the lean to and recommend wearing them at night if walking along the lanes.
