“Had a great stay at Parsonage Cottage.”

Clean & comfortable, we especially loved the private garden area with lovely planting & so peaceful & quiet. Disappointed there was no welcome pack on our arrival, no teabags or milk in the fridge after our long journey! We would recommend The Volunteer pub in Yealmpton (only a 10mins drive away) for good pub grub at good prices! We visited Saltram, Buckland Abbey & Cotehele National Trust properties, Plymouth & the lovely sandy beach at Bigbury on Sea. The weather was fantastic too ...

We would definitely go back if we were visiting the area again & wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others. Best wishes, Jonathan & Lucinda West Sussex

Thank you for your kind comments. Many apologies that there were no tea bags in the cottage, we normally do supply these together with coffee and had ommited to refill the tea bag jar. I admit we have given up supplying milk as so much was wasted with people prefering skimmed, plant based etc etc. but will take your comments on board. Best wishes Carrie Property Owner

The property

Tucked away at the end of a private drive on the edge of Newton Ferrers, 800 yards from the shops/pub and picturesque creek, two attractive, Grade II listed cottages converted from barns on a 16th cent.

farmstead, once home to the Bishop of Exeter.

The cottages are smart and welcoming with original features, high apex beams, wood floors (rugs) and modern comforts, each with own small garden, beautifully planted for privacy by owners who live in the farmhouse next door (no farming now).

Across the gravelled entrance drive, shared use of lawned garden.

Parsonage Farm Cottage is a neat, detached upside down cottage on two levels, said to have been the Bishop's sleeping chamber for the farmhouse behind.

At the front, pretty, enclosed garden (table/chairs, barbecue) with 2 slate steps up to glazed double doors and 2 further steps (top stairgate) up to open-plan living/dining/kitchen, cosy and inviting with smart red sofas, TV/DVD; small kitchen area neatly fitted in one corner (slimline dishwasher, microwave, fridge, gas hob/electric oven) with handcrafted units.

Downstairs (stairgates), two bedrooms - a double (5' bed), and a twin; smart shower room (suite, shower, wc and basin).

A homely and welcoming base. Newton Ferrers/Noss Mayo: adjoining small villages beside the River Yealm estuary, sheltered by oak-wooded hillsides, popular for sailing, lovely for walking or just sitting.

Essential shops (Newton Ferrers) and good food pubs.

Low tide footpath across the creek.

Tennis courts; riding stables.

Pedestrian ferry to coast walk to Wembury (village), and secluded beach.

Mothecombe (nearest sandy beach by car), 4 miles.

Plymouth, 11.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £100.

About the location

NEWTON FERRERS

Plymouth 8 miles.

A tranquil, picturesque village in the South Hams area of Devon, on a bend of the River Yealm leading up from the South Devon coast (1 mile). The perfect haven for sailors, for those who love messing about near water and for those who appreciate stunning and civilised countryside. There is a local butcher, chemist, post office and grocer in Newton Ferrers and an organic farm shop just two miles away. The village pub, with fantastic views across the water towards Noss Mayo and the creek, serves good food and drink. The area is blessed with many walks that meander along the waterside and across the fields, while to the north Dartmoor's high tors and open spaces beckon those who love wild country. The city of Plymouth with its shops, Marine Aquarium and Barbican quayside area is just 8 miles away while beautiful Totnes with its 'alternative' view on life is a must. If the beach rather than boats is what you seek, you won't do better than the beautiful sands at Mothecombe and Bigbury just a few miles down the road. Both are accessible by road or boat from Newton Ferrers. There are a number of excellent golf courses nearby.
