“This place was pristine and so beautiful!”

From the moment I got there Nick was at hand to explain how everything worked and showed me where everything was kept. Me and my partner had come for valentine's day and there was flowers, chocolates and some prosecco waiting for us! The Shepard's hut was so cosy, all the facilities were working perfectly and I honestly couldn't recommend this place more if I tried! Me and my partner had come for valentine's day and there was flowers, chocolates and some prosecco waiting for us! The Shepard's hut was so cosy, all the facilities were working perfectly and I honestly couldn't recommend this place more if I tried! The location is idyllic, and the hosts have absolutely thought of everything you might need, and are only a text message away if you need anything during your stay! We enjoyed the hot tub thoroughly and even got to see some bunnies and deer whilst we were in it! The location is spectacular with woodland walks right from your hut and rich mining heritage all around, we went to the recommendation pub the Cornish arms for our valentine's meal and all staff members were super friendly! I honestly cannot wait to stay here again! Thank you so much Nick and Karen!

The property

About three miles from the village of Gunnislake, surrounded by serene woodland, is Rock View Shepherd's Hut.

This beautiful retreat is set within broad-leafed woodland, close to Wheal Josiah, the now abandoned, but former richest copper mine in Europe.

Wander through this lovely land towards the hut and step up into the romantic studio accommodation.

On your left sits a lovely dining area, which can be transformed into a cosy double bed come night-time.

Perfect for two adults.

With no TV or WiFi, this really is a relaxing retreat for you and your other half to get away from it all.

A compact yet nicely appointed kitchen also comes nearby, while the layout benefits charmingly from a woodburning stove and a flutter of delightful copper features indicating the copper mine grounds that the property rests on.

Completing this unique bolthole is a fresh white shower room.

Outside is a private woodland garden with a table, chairs and a fire pit - an idyllic spot to unwind.

Also for your enjoyment a private wood-fired hot tub for two.

Beyond the garden are acres of woodland and the Tamar Trails activity centre for walking and cycling, which is around a 20-minute walk away.

Nearby are the historic market town of Tavistock, the National Trust's Cotehele House, Buckland Abbey and Morwellham Quay, the location of the BBC's Edwardian Farm.

Further afield, Plymouth has shops, theatres, the National Marine Aquarium and historic Barbican.

Rock View Shepherd’s Hut is a peaceful and picturesque retreat where you can choose to do as little or as much as you wish.

The area is perfect for exploring Dartmoor, the south and north coast beaches and the attractions of Cornwall’s far west. Close to hand, the Dartmoor town of Tavistock with its pannier market, pubs and restaurants is a must, as well as the popular fishing village of Calstock, renowned for its crafts and festivals, while the Donkey Sanctuary and Cotehele House and Gardens (NT) are just 10 minutes away. Enjoy a round of golf at St Mellion (8 miles), explore the restored Victorian mining village at Morwellham Quay (4 miles), search for otters and deer along the Tamar Valley footpath, visit the National Trust owned Lydford Gorge, or take a trip to the beach and picturesque harbour at Looe (25 miles) - there’s something for everyone.
