So relaxing an totally worth the treat! The cottage was larger than we expected and we wanted for nothing plus there were extra towels and dressing gowns. The afternoon tea with delicious lemon drizzle cake was a lovely and very welcome surprise after the long journey. We stayed over Easter and the Lindt Bunny was an extra treat. Location is very central for all the local tourist spots but you have the seclusion and privacy if you just want to relax. We’re so glad we chose Swallow Barn and one ...

Beautiful cottage and private beautiful south facing garden to enjoy. Great location for driving around north and south cornwall. Lots of little touches in the cottage and perfect lemon drizzle cake to welcome is. Thank you. Very good communication before and during our stay. We had a couple of minor issues that were dealt with quickly and efficiently. We had a lovely time at the cottage and would certainly return.

Steph “Swallow Barn is incredible, set in beautiful Cornish countryside and with so many beautiful seaside towns just 20 mins away in any direction.”
The barn itself is a home from home with all that is needed for a perfect holiday. Frank was excellent and in contact on the run up to our stay and then during our stay. We highly recommend Swallow Barn and will be looking forward to staying there again.

We lacked for nothing - everything we could possibly need had already been thought of. Milk and the home made cake on arrival was a lovely touch. The owner was there to greet us and readily contactable if needed. We loved the peace and quiet which Swallow Barn Cottage provided. The secluded garden, with its' far reaching views of the Cornish countryside, was an added bonus. We would definitely return and would highly recommend this property.

Jim “A great converted barn with a delightful garden, in an attractive part of Cornwall, with helpful and friendly owners, resulted in having a relaxing and enjoyable holiday.”
Property is extremely well equipped and was beautifully warm even though the weather was rather chilly. Only minor issue is that the sofa and easy chair are rather low and difficult to get up from - if you elderly/ unfit/arthritic like me - but most will have no problems. Reassuringly the bed is no problem (as well as being extremely comfortable). Would we go again. Yes, but I would probably bring a portable chair with me.

Taylor “Gorgeous little cottage (which in fact was not actually so little!”
) The rooms were very open and spacious yet felt so homely and warm especially when you light the log burner in the living area. Had absolutely everything we needed which was delightfully unexpected. Even the kitchen was very well stocked we didn't need to bring half of the stuff that we did with us! Even equipment such as rolling pins, weighing scales and a food processor provided, which goes above and beyond what we were expecting (and was very exciting for two chefs haha). The bed was so comfortable, had a great nights sleep every night after venturing out into some of the beautiful places Cornwall has to offer in the surrounding area. We even purchased some birdseed to fill up the birdfeeder in the garden as there were so many birds that came over; robins, blue tits, sparrows - they were such a joy to look at while sat in the living room, and also when in the hot tub. Huge thankyou to the owners you have created such a wonderful space, we would definitely return in the future and recommend this stay to friends and family.

David “We’ve so enjoyed our stay in this lovely cottage, combining rustic charm with all the modern amenities one needs.”
The view of the lovely garden and the scenery beyond is outstanding, as is the fabulous wood fired hot tub. For us it is in a great situation, being near to the coast and the Camel Trail etc. There is also the local Red Lion pub at a convenient walking distance. Frank & Kay have provided everything one could possibly need, including the beautiful floral arrangements and of course the lemon cake - A fabulous week!

It’s a real home from home, we especially enjoyed the hot tub. Lovely quiet place with beautiful views. Most places we visited was about an hour’s drive so ideal location for things to do. If you are stuck to where to go just ask Frank, he has an excellent knowledge of area and can suggest plenty of places. We hope to come back, it’s just the drive to get there from the Midlands, but worth it when you do.

They Loved the cake and all the little touches that just added to there time. Frank Was a pleasent joy to speak with and made a very welcome visit on arrival and on phone before hand. All amenities, utensils and more thought of, catered and supplied. Bed very comfortable, kitchen fully equipped, lounge/dining area fully functioning. Our only negatives are..... 1. sofa very small for a 6ft hubby and me to share so a small corner sofa would work much better, 2. move the lounge dining area to a corner as in front of a working radiator with the cold weather was very uncomfortable. 3. Finally, two eating areas not needed so remove the tiny bistro in kitchen and put worktop/cupboard station for storing our own food. We sadly did not get to use the hot top, but it looked wonderful and the gardens are stunning. We would definitely rebook this beautiful holiday home again when we return to this area.

Frances-Mary “We felt that there should have been a choice of either a king size bed or twin beds which could be put together to make one king size bed.”
The headboard could be fixed to the wall to accommodate this, although we would have preferred a more solid one, as the bars were rather uncomfortable to lean back on. Not ideal for someone like myself who suffers back and leg trouble on a permanent basis. The bedside tables could have been bigger too. We felt that more crockery and cutlery would have been an asset too. To have the crockery available all the time, we would have had to run the dishwasher every night, which my husband was loath to do. The kitchen table was rather small too. Outside, I think the steps by the Hot Tub could have been more stable, perhaps fixed to the outside of the Hot Tub to make it easier for people to get in and out, which would benefit those with mobility difficulties (as already mentioned), but on the positive side, it was lovely using the Hot Tub to relax after a busy day. On the credit side, the owners Frank and Kay Chapman were very helpful, and grateful for the feedback given above. They were very good about it when we had to contact them quite late in the evening to advise of our arrival time.The cottage itself was in a very good location, once we got the hang of where to turn off from the A39 (St. Kew Highway) and we found it extremely easy to get to the places where the rest of our family were staying. We particularly liked the spacious bathroom and lounge. However, if we were to book Swallow Barn again, with all due respect, we would prefer to book directly with Frank Chapman, rather than go through Helpful Holidays. This is because we did not approve of the way the money was taken from our account and the extra Administration Fee etc that became payable to the agency. The E-Mails implied the money would be taken whether we liked it or not. We know Helpful Holidays meant well, but we did feel that the restrictions due to COVID-19 that were 'clapped' on us were a bit excessive. For instance, not allowing us to have visitors - the places the rest of the family were staying at, didn't have these restrictions, perhaps because they are independently run, but still taking the necessary precautions in relation to COVID-19. So we could visit them with no problem, but they were forbidden to visit us, which we felt was unfair, just because it would mean them going through the house to get to the garden. I understand that this was part of the Guidelines Helpful Holidays had issued to owners of properties under their management and consequently those staying at the properties. Of course, if we returned to Swallow Barn next year, it is likely that the visitor ban would no longer apply. These things caused a lot of worry and upset to me, considering that I am Autistic, and do not cope well with pressure or change to routine (as I have been forced to do, thanks to the mask Law, even though I am exempt.) When I spoke to a lady at the agency, they were very understanding of my circumstances and said there was no reason why people couldn't visit us. It was only because the garden is enclosed, hence visitors having to go through the house, that we were not allowed to have any visitors, but I didn't know that until I spoke to Kay Chapman and it was mentioned in an E-Mail from her husband.

We have taken a look at the steps up to the hot tub and, although we have had no other guests mention the steps, which are secure, we have now fixed a bracket at the top connecting the steps to the hot tub. With regard to the beds, we do not advertise twin beds as being an option at the property. We are sorry that you felt there was not enough cutlery, we have not had any other guests mention of this before and so did not feel it was necessary to supply more. We encourage our guests to raise any concerns during their stay when the opportunity exists to deal with the matter. Our only bit of feedback would be the listing states it has a hot tub. As hot tub owners personnally ourselves we expected an electric jet installed tub. The actual tub is a wood fired wooden construction Japanese style seated tub. If we had known this we would not have requested it. As with the style and weather at the time having to go out and start the fire to get the tub up to temperature was not appropriate in poor weather and too time consuming. I would suggest the listing is change to correctly list the tub as a “wood fired Japanese tub” not a “hot tub” which are two very different things.

From the initial friendly welcome, the scones, jam & clotted cream, through to the quality of all equipment in the cottage - all bases were covered and left us needing or wanting for nothing. The log fire and log fired hot tub were fantastic with a never ending supply of logs, firelighters and kindling. It's very obvious that a lot of care, planning and investment has gone into the cottage and this certainly pays off when you stay there. We both had a fantastic time and enjoyed every minute we spent in the cottage, and would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone who considering it.

Nice private garden with hot tub and shady area for quiet relaxation. Good eating places within 10 mins . drive , and all of Cornwall available within an hours drive.

We cannot find fault with either the property or the welcome which were both first rate. We would return again except we have walked the SW coast path to far in either direction. We are looking next year for a 2 person dog free property in the Camborne area.

April “This was a lovely cottage within a courtyard of buildings, it had everything you could want for a comfortable stay and although we had not booked the hot tub we were offered the use when we arrived.”
It was situated just off the A39 making access to all parts of Cornwall very easy. There was a warm welcome with a cake and everything to make tea an coffee including a great coffee maker. What a lovely place to spend a week.

About 2 miles from St Kew, tucked quietly away on a little hedgerow lane 400 yards back from a pretty, wooded stretch of the A39, a semi-detached cottage all on one level, converted from part of a courtyard of handsome Victorian barns.
To the front, parking and gravelled approach; at the back, an enclosed, south-facing, shrub/flower-filled garden with paved patio (table/chairs, awning, chimenea) with lovely open rural views.
Available by arrangement (£60 extra, fuel provided), a privately positioned Japanese-style wood-fired hot tub for two, looking to countryside and starry skies.
From front garden, door (5'10" lintel) to hall (step); living/dining room, filled with light from large skylight in its lofty vaulted ceiling, with woodburner, TV/DVD, iPod dock and door to garden; kitchen (slimline dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, fridge-freezer, electric cooker); double bedroom (5' bed) with TV and pretty garden view; bathroom (suite, corner bath plus separate shower).
No babies.
A good place in which to relax or to tour from, close to many fine surfing beaches. St Kew: little village (good food pub, medieval church) amid trees in a valley, off the beaten track.

Sea at Port Isaac/Port Gaverne (cove beach), 3½ miles, or Polzeath (splendid sand/surf beach), 5½, or Rock (sandy beach, watersports, sailing school and St Enodoc golf course), 4½.

Not far from Port Isaac, St Kew is a small village – the first recorded in Cornwall! - on the north Cornish coast. The village church dates from the fifteenth century and is home to some remarkable stained glass windows. Also in St Kew is a traditional village pub and a golf course, and there is a donkey sanctuary at St Kew Highway. The St Kew Inn also dates from the fifteenth century, and boasts a lovely open fire in winter and a pretty beer garden for sunshine drinks in the summer. There are some lovely walks in the countryside surrounding St Kew, including a circular route through the river valleys.
